Hello again!
As some of you already know, ol' betsy (the desktop computer) has gone from her spastic faints to a very long coma. Mom's on the phone with the computer geniuses trying to figure out what's wrong. Need I remind our audience that this is the third or fourth time that our computer has crashed in the span of two and half years! I'm thinking about developing a website: www.anythingbutdell.com!
Adina had her first concert with Champaign's Youth Orchestra--wow, we (Mom and I) had know idea that they sounded so good! Pictures will come, as soon as the desktop is fixed...scout's honor.

The Source of the Cold
Funny thing happened last Tuesday.
As Mom and I were taking the kids to music lessons we over heard Allen talking to Alex, and this was their little conversation.
Alex: Where does the coldness from the garage freezer come?
Allen: That's silly Alex, everyone knows that freezer is connected to Antarctica!
Alex: Really?
Allen: Yeah! That's why it's always so cold
Mom and I then concluded then that if the cold temperature came from Antarctica, then the heat from the oven must come from the Sahara Desert!
The First Hatchling Is Leaving the Nest!
Adam is now saying his final farewells, for tomorrow he is taking off to Florida, where he will start his first semester of college! Adam is looking forward to the warmer weather, and is excited that all of the stores are just five minutes away (via bike ride). We will miss him, but we are really glad that he has the opportunity to meet new friends and learn new things. With him gone, we'll finally be able to bring out all the candy we've been hiding!
We do have pictures, however our desktop computer has crashed, so I'm managing the blog from Adam's laptop.
Quick update on Dad's leg. The staples have been removed (all twenty-seven of them) and he's doing extremely well. He's finally walking without the aid of crutches! Austin's leg seems to have recovered, and he his now participating on the basket ball team.
Andrew has now discovered that cooking is his hearts desire, so if anyone ever comes over, you'll find him with his nose stuck in a cook book, or he'll be cooking up a storm.
I'd continue but Mom, Adam, and Dad went out for dinner, so I need to feed the kiddies!

Mom and Dad
My "Home-Cooked" Meal (Sara Lee style!)
Picture this.
It's Sunday night, at around 6:30 in the evening. All is great, except for the fact that dinner is not cooked, Mom's busy on the computer, and Dad--well, let's just say his nose barely reaches the stove top and leave it at that. Adam's exhausted and Adina's watching the kids. That leaves only two people: Chef Dewey, and Chef Alexis. Quickly, the two masters whipped out the cook books to concoct a great work of art...or at least something edible. Finally, we settled on Hearty Potato Chowder; simple yet yummy! Unfortunately, our choice didn't go well with the Master Master Chef, considering that it was late, and we didn't have all the ingredients. Eventually, she consented to a quick trip to Wal-Mart saying "If the kids go to bed late, I'm going to hold it over your head for the next two years!" So I hopped in the car and jetted off to Wal-Mart, with only fifteen minutes to shop.
After several failed attempts to find the cream of chicken, I gave up, feeling quite defeated. Suddenly, my eyes fell on a can of Cambells already prepared Potato chowder. Praise God! I had been saved. It was just like it said in the Bible "Delight thyself in the Lord, and He will provide you with five cans of soup that you desire!" (Psalm 37 revised) I quickly threw five cans into the cart and flew out the store.
Back at home, the cans were opened and hastily discarded in the trash (Hey, this is suppose to be home cooked, I'm not going to tell my siblings that I cheated!). After discovering that the soup was somewhat bland-tasting, I chopped some onion, celery, and bacon and threw it in with some Thyme and frozen corn. Some people ask us how the kids know when it is time for dinner. My mom's response is simple: either she yells over the intercome "LAST ONE TO THE TABLE IS GROUNDED!", or we can smell dinner burning. In this case, it was the delicious, savory aroma that brought the younglings through the kitchen door, and with big appetites too. The funny thing that I observed was when each of my siblings took their first bite, they would look at me with big eyes, eat their bowls clean, and then leave without a word. Yep, that definitely means they like it. The only sibling that filed a complaint against me was Adam, who wished their was more...hmm....good complaint.
It was only when Adam spotted the five cans in the trash that my bubble burst!
Now each sibling comes to me sayin "hey Lex, thanks for the meal there's nothing like doctored up Cambells"
But as my good friend would say it "Hey, it is a home cooked meal...Sara Lee style!"

And The Little Child Will Lead Them
A couple of days ago Mom and I were in the kitchen making deep dish pizza, when suddenly Alyssa burst into the room crying. "Alyssa, what's wrong?" my Mom kept asking, clearly troubled that Alyssa was in distress. When we realized she was having a fit of anger, mom firmly told her that she must calm down, and try to be joyful. At this point, dinner was late, and Mom was already stressed out from all the other distractions. Amber, who never likes to be left out of a conversation piped up "See Mama, I'm happy...do you see my smiling face?!" Needless to say, that send us all into fits of giggles. It's funny how a small, innocent remark can leave such a big imprint on our minds and hearts.
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year everyone!
As you can plainly see, I (Alexis) am horrible at updating the blog. Things have been quite busy around here. Dad successfully underwent knee surgery and is recovering quite nicely, and despite his high matinence (going to the video store for movies, buying cookies and ginger ale, etc.) he has been quite cheerful and loves to fly about in his wheel chair...he can even pop a wheely!
Christmas was wonderful. This year, we had our Grandma's Margie and Dorothy, and Uncle Mark come to stay with us for Christmas. Considering that our Uncle Mark is the spitting image of our dad--both in personality and sort of in appearence--we had a swell time!
I would have posted pictures, but for some reason the computer won't accept my memory card.
So hang tight, and I'll get them up as soon as I can.
